Women in Ancient Egypt
It is quite fascinating to notice that, by historic evidence, ancient Egyptian women received equal rights economically and legally. They could own property, they could sign contracts, they were considered legitimate witnesses in court. They could sell property, divorce, and could be considered a partner in contracts. Women were also “entitled to sue at law” as well.
Most women were working women. They helped along with agricultural work and would manage farms and businesses in the absence of their husbands. Some women were the heads of their own businesses; others became doctors. Women could also work as musicians, and noblewomen could be apart of a priesthood.
Contraceptives were allowed. When a woman was giving birth, her head would be shaved. There would be many midwives to assist her as well. The discovery of finding out weather or not the child was a boy or a girl originated from Ancient Egypt and eventually spread.
